The NRO RPKI Program Team is calling on network operators to share what stage of the RPKI adoption journey they are at and what barriers they might have encountered along the way.

A few months ago we shared the outcomes that are guiding the work that we are doing as part of the NRO RPKI Program. We mentioned that we would like to learn more about the community’s expectations regarding consistency across the Regional Internet Registries (RIRs) in their RPKI implementations, with the ultimate goal of defining what a single, global RPKI system would look like.

We want to learn more about the experience of managing resources across multiple RIRs to understand whether differences in RIR RPKI implementations are hindering RPKI adoption, particularly in terms of Route Origin Authorisation (ROA) creation. If so, we aim to identify which differences are the most problematic, so we can focus on making those aspects of the RPKI system more consistent.

With this in mind, we will be conducting a survey, inviting network operators responsible for IP space allocated by different RIRs to share what stage of the RPKI adoption journey they are in and what barriers they may have encountered or are currently facing. The survey will also give participants the option to volunteer for an interview, allowing us to explore some of their answers in greater depth.

Are you a network operator responsible for IP space allocated by multiple RIRs? Please take the survey before 12 September 2024.

Look out for an update on our learnings from the survey and interviews in the next couple of months!
